North Topsail Bonitos! Pictures added!

Casey Johnson with a pair of bonitosCasey and Sidney Johnson with a couple of bonitosI had some clients from Delaware that worked at trying to get out all week but the fans would not shut off! They were heading out of town on Saturday and with a little luck we were able to get them out with the window we had. Steve, Casey, Marie and Sidney met me at the dock right before 7am, we loaded up the boat and took off clearing New River Inlet by 7:15. By 7:30 we found the fleet and the fish in 35-40ft of water about 2 miles outside the inlet . Fishing the large Yozuri deep divers in clown and pink it did not take long for the rods to start bouncing! We had a nice mix of some 6-7lb bonitos, 2-3lb bluefish, and seabass on the Yozuris! It seemed like something would jump on one rod and whoevers turn it was would pick it up, then the other rod would go off with a bonito and Casey would be at the rod……coincidence? We worked on the bonitos until 10am when they slowed down then started dropping jigs and squid to see what we could find on the bottom. Caught a mix of fat seabass, blues, ringtails and porgies, a few of those added to the cooler for the trip to Delaware. A very productive trip with alot of smiles and memories with a great family!

It looks like later this week we are going to have some pretty weather, the bonitos are only here for a few weeks come and get them before they are gone. Bonitos make great table fare.

Tight lines,

Captain Jim
